What Is Heroes & Generals?
Heroes & Generals is a large-scale World War II–themed multiplayer online combined-arms game that blends first-person shooter combat with real-time strategy. Originally developed and released by Reto-Moto, the game allowed players to fight as soldiers on the front lines or command entire battalions across a dynamic, player-driven war across Europe.
While Heroes & Generals gained a loyal following for its scale, ambition, and unique feel, it eventually went offline, leaving behind a dedicated community that still believes in what made it special. This project is not a brand-new game or a sequel; it’s a rebuilding and a modernization of the original experience, built with respect for the players who made it legendary.

Insight Interactive’s Role & Vision
Insight Interactive has acquired the HEROES AND GENERALS™ trademark and is committed to bringing the title back through modern infrastructure, strong partnerships, and responsible publishing.
We want to be clear: we are not the original creators, and this is not “Heroes & Generals 2.” Our mission is to restore, modernize, and future-proof the game that players loved, not reinvent it.
As a publishing company, Insight Interactive will collaborate with experienced studios, developers, and community talent to rebuild Heroes & Generals using updated technology, balanced gameplay, and fair monetization.
Our focus is on
Enhancing stability, optimization, and overall performance
Eliminating the old pay-to-win model and introducing fair progression systems
Rebalancing weapons and equipment to restore competitive integrity
Preserving the large-scale warfare and strategic depth that defined the original
The original game left behind one of the most passionate communities in WWII gaming. With modern tools, improved infrastructure, and renewed community interest, there’s finally an opportunity to give Heroes & Generals the stability and attention it always deserved.
This project is about finishing what the original started, bringing back the experience fans remember, refined for a modern era.

Current Stage of Development
Stage 1:
Foundation & Validation (2026–2027)
Stage 1 is focused on proving that Heroes & Generals can be rebuilt authentically before full production begins.
Rather than rushing toward monetization or crowdfunding, this phase is dedicated to validating the core identity of Heroes & Generals, the movement, gunplay, animation timing, sound design, pacing, and overall feel that defined the original experience

What Stage 1 Includes
Internal prototyping of core infantry movement and weapon handling
Focused testing of animations, audio response, and combat flow
Iteration guided by veteran player feedback
Public sharing of prototype footage and breakdowns explaining what is being tested and why
All work shown during Stage 1 is clearly labeled as prototype-level and shared for transparency, not polish.

Why This Matters
Heroes & Generals lives or dies on feel. Stage 1 exists to get the fundamentals right first, before large-scale production, funding, or outward-facing promises.
Crowdfunding Approach
Stage 1 also includes a small, focused crowdfunding campaign, launched only after core gameplay systems have been validated. Its sole purpose is to fund:
-
A long-term development partner
-
A playable, production-quality vertical slice
A second, larger crowdfunding campaign would only be considered after the vertical slice is complete.
What Stage 1 Is Not
Not a public alpha
Not Early Access
Not a release window
Not monetization
Stage 1 concludes when a playable vertical slice exists and the core identity of Heroes & Generals has been demonstrably validated.
